Melbourne’s iconic Flinders Street Railway Station was completed in 1909 and dominates 2 entire city blocks. A small terminus on the site served for half a century, but the transport network was transformed when the government built a new station in 1882. Work began on the station building itself in 1905 and continued for the next 4 years. The station was modernised between 1982 and 2007. Locals have been meeting ‘under the clocks’ beneath the main dome for more than a century. If you’d like to learn more about this landmark’s history you can even book a tour, which takes in the expansive concourse, the sweeping platform steps and the nearby Immigration Museum.
